Ravenscar Top Ten Picnic Spot

Times top ten picnic spot at Ravenscar cliffs.
The prospect from the cliffs at Ravenscar, looking back round the curve of the bay to the red-roofed houses of Robin Hood’s Bay, seeming to tumble down their cliff, is truly dramatic. Better still if you time it to eat your picnic at low tide, when the sea recedes from a giant arc of curvilinear rock scars in the floor of the bay. The geology hereabouts is extraordinary; make time to explore the remnants of the alum works (signposted just beyond Ravenscar), and also the fossil-rich beach at Boggle Hole.
Start and finish Upper car park, Station Road, Robin Hood’s Bay YO22 4RE (OS ref NZ949055)
Walk 8 miles, easy, OS Explorer OL27. Descend steep road to shore; follow Cleveland Way south along shore, then cliffs to Ravenscar. From here, follow cycleway back to Robin Hood’s Bay.
