The Sun newspaper's travel writer, Mandy Appleyard, has fallen in love with Staithes. "Its like a scene from a Harry Potter film - fishermen's cottages clinging to the last few inches of land around a sea lashed harbour," she wrote. "One of the most dramatic seaside villages in Britain and the perfect getaway."
She also praises her holiday accommodation, a recently renovated sea captain's cottage with many original features; but her second home during her stay was the Cod & Lobster pub, as close to the harbour as it could be without falling in the water. She said:" There was always a warm welcome, as well as good ale and bar food and seats outside where you could breath in the sea air whilst enjoying a pint."
