Grosmont to Goathland
A moderate walk. Ages 5 and over should be able to reach Mallyan Spout and over-8s should do it all.

This lovely walk by the Esk River has it all. A clear level path along an old railway with a spectacular incline and riverside woods full of birdsong. At Beck Hole is the Birch Hall Inn, one of the tiniest and most delightful pubs in the world. Goathland offers the fine 70ft Mallyan Spout waterfall and a steam train ride to cap it all off.
Route From Grosmont station, NZ 828052, waymarked Rail Trail for 2 ½ miles to Beck Hole. At Incline Cottage (822020), right off trail; path south through woods for ¾ mile to Mallyan Spout waterfall (824010). Return 100m; up steps (Goathland) to Mallyan Spout Hotel. Left along road to Goathland station; or ahead on field path to cross NYMR by Abbot’s House (841006). Path above Goathland House to station. Take the steam train back to Grosmont.
