Surely one of the prettiest seaside villages in England and once a holiday favourite of the real James Herriot, Runswick Bay is beautifully maintained and full of old world charm. There is a very steep road down to the harbour but it is so worth a visit, with quaint cottages and long sandy beaches. Miranda Krestovnikoff and the Marine Conservation Society have announced that Runswick Bay is one of the top ten beachcombing places in the UK and you can often find fossils and jet under the cliffs.
The Cliffmount Hotel garden
Overlooking Runswick Bay is the Cliffmount luxury Hotel AA*** which serves outstanding food and has recently been awarded two AA rosettes, one of only two restaurants on the Yorkshire coast to gain this coveted award. The Cliffmount really has kept its prices low and you can enjoy five star food at three star prices! After your meal you can take a stroll down the wooded path to the sea.
