Whitby Railway Posters
When train travel was at its peak the railway companies commissioned some beautiful posters to publicise their services and here are just a few examples of those which featured Whitby.
You can buy copies of these posters and many more at very reasonable prices from The Science and Society Picture Library which produces superb prints for all the major national museums.
Click on the pictures for more details:
The building of Captain Cook's Ship, The Endeavour.
Robin Hood's Bay.
The railway north of Whitby ran very close to the sea, so this picture may be of the line near to Sandsend.
The east side and the old lifeboat station.
A dramatically styled harbour poster by Austin Cooper in around 1923.
The west cliff and the Spa Pavilion.
