Thackeray's Whitby
Born in Durham in 1869, Lance Thackeray was an outstanding commercial artist and co-founded the London Sketch Club in 1898. He worked through the golden age of postcards, producing more than 950 designs in a gentle style which sold all over the world. At the outbreak of the First World War he joined the highly decorated Artist's Rifles regiment and sadly died after a long illness in 1916.
